Project Overview

Gravitas began as a fine dining restaurant concept but evolved into a private social club in the Golden Triangle of Beverly Hills.

This impressive 28,000-square-foot venue features dining, entertainment, high-end amenities, and concierge services. Designed by Kelly Architects, guests are welcomed into an open-air garden bar that boasts a retractable roof and heated floors. To the left, also on the lower level, is “The Vault,” which previously housed a Wells Fargo vault. This separate area showcases another bar and a 380-bottle wine locker where select members can securely store their private collections using a digital biometric security system.

The members-only club features stunning terrazzo flooring, marble walls, light wood paneling, and reflective laser-cut ceiling accents.

A staircase leads to the second level, which opens into “The Loft” — a spacious and more intimate area with lower ceilings, private dining rooms, a conference room, and a recording studio. In the center, a communal lounge is highlighted by a grand 28-foot by 7-foot LED screen, complemented by a stage for live entertainment.

This Art Deco-inspired sanctuary reflects the glamor and refinement of the region and aims to foster connections among its members.

The multi-story haven is adorned with Carrara and Calcutta marble and houses a restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating. It offers an open-air garden bar with an unobstructed view of Santa Monica Boulevard, temperature-controlled wine lockers, private dining booths, and a state-of-the-art conference room. Additional amenities include two private rooms, a recording studio, a car club, and a “G-Car” chauffeur service that allows members to book rides to and from the club.

Our Solution

This project involved significant design-build work, which we managed effectively as it evolved.

Scheduling was complex, requiring adjustments as changes occurred. For example, we excavated the outdoor garden bar area to a depth of 5 feet and re-compacted the soil, dividing this task into four stages. Additionally, we used a drill rig, and encountered groundwater at the bottom of the caisson during column installation.

The spacious kitchen posed a challenge due to limited ceiling height, making ductwork installation difficult, so we had to revisit this area for proper fit. The overall schedule was divided into eight sections for clarity, and we coordinated carefully with several external vendors hired by ownership.

The project finishes were of high quality, leading to longer delivery times, and protective measures were essential throughout the installation.
