Located in the former Hotel Solamar building, the new Margaritaville Hotel San Diego Gaslamp Quarter brings tropical vacation vibes to city dwellers. The property underwent a full rock ‘n’ roll revamp to become the first urban location for the popular lifestyle brand on the West Coast.
The hotel features 235 guest rooms and suites and three dining concepts: LandShark Bar & Grill, 5 O’Clock Somewhere Bar, and Margaritaville Coffee Shop.
The lobby has a local touch reminiscent of Baja California with a Mission style utilizing raw materials like stucco and concrete, custom hand-made furnishings from reclaimed wood, and creative works from Mexican artists.
Situated on the largest rooftop pool deck in downtown San Diego, the 5 O’Clock Somewhere Bar offers guests a place to enjoy views of downtown and Petco Park.
The guest rooms and suites have a vintage beach bungalow aesthetic, authentic surfboards hung on the walls, tropical accents, and framed Jimmy Buffett albums. Additionally, the hotel offers two unique specialty suites that open onto the pool deck – the Jimmy Buffett Suite and Nothin’ But Breeze Suite.
Unique items installed included a 500-lb airplane hanging in the LandShark Bar & Grill, a light fixture assembly of over two hundred hand-painted Margarita Glasses in the Lobby, and an eleven-foot-tall Flip Flop. It was a challenging project that included a once-in-a-100-year hurricane in San Diego, which seems appropriate for Margaritaville.
