Located within the Park Hyatt Aviara Resort in Carlsbad, California, Ember & Rye is celebrity chef Richard Blais’ modern reimagining of the classic steakhouse. The project transformed the resort’s 30-year-old Argyle Steakhouse into a vintage California-style restaurant with a contemporary twist, offering sweeping views of the 18th green at the Arnold Palmer–designed Aviara Golf Club. PWI Construction partnered with award-winning GrizForm Design Architects to deliver this restaurant renovation project, creating a refined yet relaxed space for resort guests and locals alike.

The 6,800-square-foot restaurant includes two indoor dining rooms, a private dining space, a whiskey library, and a circular bar—all complemented by a 3,853-square-foot outdoor terrace overlooking the Batiquitos Lagoon.

The design blends modern craftsmanship with nostalgic West Coast charm, using a color palette of teals, whites, and creams accented by burnished brass and black finishes. Guests are welcomed under a burnished brass and glass chandelier into an entryway of bold peacock-hued walls and custom hardwood flooring. The transformed bar—formerly the resort’s library—features a marine-blue leather–clad facade, intricate millwork, and an eye-level fireplace, while offering panoramic views of the terrace and golf course.

Throughout the restaurant, rich architectural details—such as custom wood and glass barn doors, full-height windows, and curated golf-inspired artwork—connect the design to its resort setting. Guests can also enjoy views of the outdoor wood-fired grill, where the culinary team prepares signature steaks and fresh seafood over open flame.

Private dining options include two rooms accommodating up to 14 and 50 guests respectively, while the outdoor terrace provides 108 additional seats surrounded by fire pits and lounge-style seating—ideal for sunset dining over the golf course.

Ember & Rye’s transformation has earned industry recognition, including the 2024 OpenTable Diners’ Choice Award and the 2025 Wine Spectator Award of Excellence, celebrating its distinctive wine program and exceptional dining experience.

This project was part of a large-scale renovation by PWI Construction at Park Hyatt Aviara Resort.
