#PWIPET Spotlight: Meet Bush

PWI Construction Director James Reigle is Bush’s human. Bush and James came together three years ago. Learn more about their story:

How’d you come up with his name?

When I was stationed in Washington DC and out for a jog, I noticed a marble plaque in the corner of a building built in the mid-1800’s. I was curious to see what it said and was surprised when I read it. Basically, it was a dedication to a dog who must have been very much loved by the Fire House that adopted him. I thought to myself that I’d name one of my future dogs after this guy. https://www.atlasobscura.com/places/vigilant-firehouse

Favorite pastime or activity to do together?

Stand up paddle boarding

Celebrity look alike?

Bush is a local celebrity (at least on the popular river he is on nearly every day).

His special talents or tricks?

Bush is extremely chill and will do anything you ask of him… except get in a bathtub.

How has he made a positive difference in your life?

I had just lost a 13-year-old Chocolate Lab to age, Bush helped fill a very big void… big time.

Breed?

Australian Cattle Dog, otherwise known as a Blue Heeler

Where did you find him/her?

Bush is a rescue. He was found wandering in the Kansas countryside. My father, a volunteer at the local animal shelter, called me and simply said “I found a Reigle dog and you need to take him” that was enough for me.

September is Adopt-A-Pet Month at PWI Construction

Our pets are part of the PWI Construction family. Through pet-friendly activities and community outreach, we encourage and support animal welfare.

During the month of September, we will promote pet adoptions on our website and social media in partnership with AdoptAPet.com, America’s largest non-profit pet adoption website. Each week we’ll highlight a PWI Pet along with an adoptable pet.

In addition to promoting pet adoptions, we are hosting a Pet Supply Drive in support of the Nevada Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA). The Nevada SPCA operates a no-kill animal sanctuary, promotes humane education, makes referrals for lower-cost spay/neuter and vaccination services, and challenges people to be the best possible guardians for the companion animals in their care. All month we will collect resources to support their no-kill shelter. Resources can be dropped off to the PWI Construction corporate headquarters (3903 West Martin Ave., Las Vegas, NV 89118) or donated online using the Nevada SPCA’s Amazon Wish List (http://a.co/gUVc0Zq).

Please consider supporting the cause by sharing our social media pet posts and contributing to the pet supply drive. Your generosity will make a difference in the lives of pets in need.

#PWIPET Spotlight: Meet Duke

PWI Construction Project Manager Rachael Brown is Duke’s human. Duke and Rachael came together nearly nine years ago. Learn more about their story:

Breed?

Rhodesian Ridgeback

How’d you come up with his name?

It is short for Marmaduke, which is who he resembles.

Favorite pastime or activity to do together?

These days we do less hiking and more hanging out. Duke is nine years old and he continues to be a great protector and an amazing companion.

His special talents or tricks?

He is a perfect gentleman, who walks right by my side and allows me to enter a room first. He is a gentle giant.

How has he made a positive difference in your life?

Nine years ago, while I was going through a divorce, my daughters and I decided to add a dog to our family. We traveled to Best Friends Sanctuary in Utah and spent a weekend volunteering and meeting various dogs. We were looking for a small/medium size female dog that was a few years old. We met some amazing fur babies the first day, however, I noticed a dog in another yard off to the side had been watching us all day. I asked the staff about this dog and was told that little was known about him. He had been found in the desert and he was extremely underweight. I felt compelled to meet him since he had taken such an interest in following us around that day. My youngest daughter was three years old at the time and since this dog had not been “kid tested” yet he came out of the yard with his trainer and two other staff members. That was intimidating, and as he approached us my daughter held out her hand for him. Just as he would have reached her, he yawned, and she stepped forward, her hand went all the way inside his mouth. This gentle boy held his mouth wide open, not wanting to close it even after her hand was removed. He had more than passed the kid test. We took him back to our pet-friendly hotel that night for a sleepover. He was clearly nervous and shy; however, he was naturally protective. During the night, my older daughter woke up to use the restroom and when she got out of bed, Duke followed her to the bathroom door and sat and waited. When she finished, he accompanied her to the edge of her bed and kissed her as she climbed back in bed, so we ended up coming home with a huge male puppy, not exactly the plan but a decision I have not regretted. Over the next few months, he gained weight and became the man of our house, and he has made sure we are safe and loved. He is a gentle giant and an amazing companion. I feel very grateful to have him in my life and he is definitely part of this family.

#PWIPet Spotlight: Meet Princess Leia

PWI Construction Estimator AJ Whitesides has a somewhat unhealthy obsession with Star Wars and a healthy obsession with his Pit Bull Terrier, Princess Leia. Learn more about their story:

How long have you had her?

5 years.

How’d you come up with her name?

Princess Leia came from my love of Star Wars.

Favorite pastime or activity to do together?

Princess Leia is an extremely smart dog and very intuitive to people’s companionship needs. She loves hanging out with people and does well with kids. She loves playing Tug of War and wrestling.

How has she made a positive difference in your life?

She keeps me company in the evenings my kids are staying at their mother’s house. She’s part of the family.

Where did you find her?

A friend of mine found her and one other dog abandoned near a shopping center and when he took them to a shelter they couldn’t take them and asked if he could foster the dogs until they could find homes for them. The moment we met her we knew she had to come with us.

#PWIPET Spotlight: Meet Movado

PWI Construction Safety & Operations Coordinator Natasha De Carvalho has a new furry friend. Just seven months ago, Movado came into Natasha’s life. Learn more about their story.

Breed?

Miniature Bull Terrier

Where did you find her?

Henderson Animal Shelter

How’d you come up with her name?

We have a Bull Terrier named Rolex. To match Rolex, we decided to name our dogs after watches because they “watch over us.”

Favorite pastime or activity to do together?

We get our cardio/workout together around our neighborhood. Movado is full of energy being that she’s only 17 months old. She can walk/run for miles none stop!

Who’s her celebrity look alike?

A small version of Spuds MacKenzie, Chico, and Bullseye.

Her special talents or tricks?

She hops like a little goat. Being a miniature, she only stands about 12 inches tall, but she can easily jump 6 feet in the air.

How has she made a positive difference in your life?

Movado has been a special dog since day one. She spent the first 11 months of her life abused and used for the sale of her puppies. Yes, puppies before the age of one. Because she was badly abused, the shelter requested that we bring Rolex to meet her before adopting. That same day we took Rolex to meet her and the two became inseparable. In February, I went through a major surgery and was on bedrest for two weeks. Movado helped me a lot through that time by keeping Rolex occupied. Movado still needs special care with medications and psychological training, but that’s all easy being that she’s very loving and shows her appreciation every day.

To see more pictures of Movado or to give a forever home to a pet of your own, visit us on social media or go to https://www.adoptapet.com/ to start your search.
