We’re happy to report that due to the tremendous outpouring of support, PWI Construction was able to donate over $2,500 worth of art supplies to the Boys and Girls Club of Southern Nevada! We received donations from all four offices as well as from several of employees in the field.

The new school year became brighter and more creative for three of the Boys and Girls Club of Southern Nevada’s neediest clubs. We were able to outfit over 60 children with all the supplies needed for them to be able to draw, paint, color and do crafts at their after-school programs.

We’re very happy to report that State of Grace restaurant in Houston, TX is safe, dry, and back open for business.

As we all know, Houston was devastated by the recent Hurricane Harvey. Luckily, our PWI Partner managed to stay high and dry during the flood and utilized their safety to benefit victims in the area by offering meals to those in need.

We’re always proud of our partners, but we’re especially proud of them for their efforts during this trying time.

Women in Construction Employee Spotlight: Meet Judi

This week, we are joining the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) to celebrate Women in Construction Week held March 4-10, 2018. The focus of the observance is to highlight women as a visible component of the construction industry and raise awareness of the opportunities available for women in the construction industry and to emphasize the growing role of women in the industry.

In celebration of Women in Construction Week, it’s our pleasure to introduce you to a few of the women at PWI Construction.

Women in Construction Spotlight: Meet Judi

Judi is situated at our Texas office and has been with PWI Construction since 2012. We sat down with Judi to learn more about how she got into the construction field and her day-to-day life.

How many years have you been in the construction industry?

I’ve been in construction for 23 years.

What role(s) have you held?

I’ve held a few different roles. I am currently a project coordinator, which is the role I’ve held the longest and the role I like the best.

What do you do in that role?

As a project coordinator, I am responsible for the entire project administratively from beginning to end. Whatever it is the construction manager, project manager and/or onsite superintendent may need assistance with, the coordinator is their life-line. From issuing contracts and change orders to tracking all subcontractor expenses, project accounting and closeout – project coordinators have their hands in a lot! It’s so much more than just tasks; it’s tons of organization and multi-tasking; it’s knowing the project and understanding the processes.

Why did you enter into construction?

I got into construction by accident really. I needed a job, so I applied. I had no idea what I was getting in to and had no idea I’d love it this much!

What do you enjoy most about what you do?

I enjoy the relationships that are built during each project. Being a nationwide general contractor with three offices affords me the opportunity to work with owners and subcontractors around the US and Canada and build relationships. Also, I get to build relationships with other PWI Construction employees that I may not have been paired up with before.

What makes construction an exciting career field?

For me, it’s exciting because I feel like I’m helping to build America! It’s challenging, and I find the construction building processes very fascinating. Each project is different and even after 23 years in the business, I learn something new every day.

Women in Construction Employee Spotlight: Meet Laura

This week marks Women in Construction Week (March 4-10, 2018) hosted by the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC). The focus of the observance is to highlight women as a visible component of the construction industry and raise awareness of the opportunities available for women in the construction industry and to emphasize the growing role of women in the industry.

In recognition of Women in Construction Week, it’s our honor to introduce you to a few of the women making it happen at PWI Construction.

Women in Construction Spotlight: Meet Laura

Laura is located at our corporate headquarters in Las Vegas and has been with PWI Construction since 2014. We sat down with Laura to learn more about how she got into the construction field and her day-to-day life.

How many years have you been in the construction industry? What role(s) have you held? What are you responsible for in your current role?

I have worked in the construction industry for fourteen years. Over the years, I have held several positions such as administrative assistant/purchasing assistant, project engineer, office engineer, project manager and currently as a project coordinator.

As a project coordinator, I work closely with project managers, subcontractors and ownership. Within this role, I compile, edit and process subcontractor agreements, project buyouts and any financial data, process general invoices and subcontractor pay applications for approval and payment, prepare all change order requests and send to owner for approval, prepare and issue all subcontractor change orders, prepare monthly owner AIA billings, process weekly project reports. Enter all invoices for payment and ensure that they have proper approval and coding. Maintain all project insurance and ensure that all subs have the proper requirements, set-up the project documents and update throughout the project and hold start-up meeting for each project. Maintain project files, request and obtain all close-out documents. Ensuring that clients’ needs are met throughout the project and involved in coordinating projects from inception to completion. I am currently working in Procore on a few projects as part of our implementation of this new project management software to see how it will work best with PWI Construction’s procedures by providing input and a working system.

Why did you enter into construction? What do you enjoy most about what you do?

I entered the construction industry while I was going to college full time for my degree in Business Management and worked as an administrative assistant with a construction company. From that point, it just stuck with me. I was always given opportunities to advance within and worked with amazing people along the way that were able to teach me different facets of the construction industry.

I work with great people and am constantly learning new things all the time. It’s great to be on a project team and take part of some amazing projects and to be able to see the progress and then the incredible outcome.

What makes construction an exciting career field?

Construction is an exciting career field because it is multifaceted, there are diverse individuals to work with, and it’s ever-changing. There is always something going on and every day is a new day with many exciting opportunities in construction.

Women in Construction Employee Spotlight: Meet Christian

As Women in Construction Week (March 4-10, 2018) hosted by the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) nears an end, we at PWI Construction want to thank the women committed to the profession and lending their talents to us and the industry as a whole.

Women in Construction Spotlight: Meet Christian

Christian is located at our corporate headquarters in Las Vegas and has been with PWI Construction since 2016. We sat down with Christian to learn more about how she got into the construction field and her day-to-day life.

How many years have you been in the construction industry? What role(s) have you held? What are you responsible for in your current role?

I have been in the construction industry for five years – eight years if you include my time in school and taking part in internships. Since beginning my professional career, I’ve been a Project Engineer. The duties of a Project Engineer change depending on the needs of the project. I’ve tracked concrete pours in a “ground-up” Casino, tracked doors, tracked procurement in general, acted as a quality manager, and as an assistant superintendent and assistant project manager. My job is and has always been to aid in maintaining a smooth and accurate flow of information for any given project.

Why did you enter into construction? What do you enjoy most about what you do?

I’ve always been attracted to architecture, but when pursuing architectural design, I was constantly curious about how the architectural wonders were made. It may suffice for some to draw a pretty picture and demand it be done, but I have a great interest in how it’s done. To me, if you know how it’s done, you can then find a way to do it better or with a different aesthetic.

The people I meet are fascinating and incredibly varied in attitude and circumstance.

What makes construction an exciting career field?

What makes construction exciting and interesting is always what makes it stressful. It’s ever changing and ever evolving with a set of rock-solid fundamentals that tend to repel any change. It’s not a lack of innovation or a refusal to think outside the box which is how it sometimes seems, but a desire to stick with what works because what works will get you a happy client and more projects in the future. Seeing that fundamental mindset interact with changes in technology, market, and client expectations can be thrilling.

Do you have any furry friends?

I have a 6-year-old White German Shepherd named Abby. She’s delightful and once she knows you, is the sweetest shedding machine you’ve ever met.

Introducing Our New Brand Identity

New look, same people and quality you’ve come to trust

We are proud to announce the launch of our new company logo as part of the ongoing progression of PWI Construction. Over the years, we have grown and evolved, and we have refreshed our look to reflect who we are. We analyzed our values as a business and created a brand identity that reflects those values.

Today, after 16 years we are releasing an updated logo mark. You will start to see our new logo reflected on our website, social media and everywhere we are mentioned. The new look better matches what we have become since our founding in 1985.

A small team inside the company worked to design something that appeared modern, approachable, friendly and connected.

Look for more updates – like our new website – as we continue to refine our brand image and identity system.
