Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel Public Space Renovation

DENVER, CO

As Denver’s largest hotel, the Sheraton Denver Downtown underwent a sweeping property-wide transformation to elevate guest experiences and meet the demands of today’s hospitality market. PWI Construction served as the general contractor for the renovation of the hotel’s public spaces—133,000 square feet of meeting areas, food & beverage venues, and shared guest amenities—all completed while the property remained fully operational.

Renovation
Build Type

Originally designed in 1958 by I.M. Pei Architects, the renovation honored the building’s mid-century architectural legacy while introducing contemporary finishes, improved functionality, and Sheraton’s latest brand standards. The comprehensive update reimagined the arrival sequence, guest circulation, and communal gathering spaces to serve both leisure and business travelers better.

A striking new porte-cochère and the signature Bezel Bar now anchor the arrival experience, creating a visual connection to Denver’s 16th Street pedestrian mall. Extending the porte-cochère’s bold geometry, Bezel’s diagrid canopy serves as a signature architectural feature. The adjacent lobby seamlessly blends style and versatility, featuring community tables, a coffee bar, and four private meeting studios. Elevated platforms create “rooms within rooms,” while felt-lined, acoustically insulated phone booths give business travelers a quiet space to connect.

Upstairs, a large fireplace—patterned to reflect Pei’s original design—welcomes guests at the top of the escalators. Copper-clad check-in pods offer a personalized and locally inspired first impression. During the clubroom renovation, a structural steel brace was uncovered and thoughtfully integrated as a focal design element.

Inside Bezel, guests enjoy an intimate cocktail lounge atmosphere with floor-to-ceiling windows that offer panoramic city views and the glow of nearby high-rises. Every detail—from lighting and materiality to furniture placement—was carefully considered to deliver a warm, immersive hospitality experience.
