The focus of the observance is to highlight women as a visible component of the construction industry and raise awareness of the opportunities available for women in the construction industry and to emphasize the growing role of women in the industry. In celebration of Women in Construction Week, it’s our pleasure to introduce you to a few of the women at PWI Construction. Women in Construction Spotlight: Meet Judi Judi is situated at our Texas office and has been with PWI Construction since 2012. We sat down with Judi to learn more about how she got into the construction field and her day-to-day life. How many years have you been in the construction industry? I’ve been in construction for 23 years. What role(s) have you held? I’ve held a few different roles. I am currently a project coordinator, which is the role I’ve held the longest and the role I like the best. What do you do in that role? As a project coordinator, I am responsible for the entire project administratively from beginning to end. Whatever it is the construction manager, project manager and/or onsite superintendent may need assistance with, the coordinator is their life-line. From issuing contracts and change orders to tracking all subcontractor expenses, project accounting and closeout – project coordinators have their hands in a lot! It’s so much more than just tasks; it’s tons of organization and multi-tasking; it’s knowing the project and understanding the processes. Why did you enter into construction? I got into construction by accident really. I needed a job, so I applied. I had no idea what I was getting in to and had no idea I’d love it this much! What do you enjoy most about what you do? I enjoy the relationships that are built during each project. Being a nationwide general contractor with three offices affords me the opportunity to work with owners and subcontractors around the US and Canada and build relationships. Also, I get to build relationships with other PWI Construction employees that I may not have been paired up with before. What makes construction an exciting career field? For me, it’s exciting because I feel like I’m helping to build America! It’s challenging, and I find the construction building processes very fascinating. Each project is different and even after 23 years in the business, I learn something new every day.
